Romanian Citizenship

CLARIFICATION OF THE ROMANIAN CITIZENSHIP

Persons whose ascendants (parents or grandparents) were Romanian citizens, can apply for a clarification of their citizenship.

According to the Romanian citizenship Law 21/1991 completed, modified and republished and following the procedure of the citizenship clarification, Romanian authorities will issue a token of evidence regarding the applicant’s Romanian citizenship.

To file the application you will need the following documents:

-Valid foreign ID document, original and one copy,

-Documents of civil status issued by the Romanian authorities (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificates, death certificate), if they exist, original and one copy,

-ID documents issued by the Romanian authorities (e.g. ID card, passport, driving license), if they exist, original and one copy,

- the certificate of naturalization, if they exist, original and one copy,

-any Romanian document you may have referring to your parents/grandparents (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificates, death certificate), if they exist, original and one copy.

Please note that all foreign documents have to be certified with the Hague Apostille in the state where they were issued, and have to be accompanied by certified translations into Romanian.

Consular fees – 34 GBP

When you have all the documents, you will have to register your application on https://www.econsulat.ro - CETATENIE - Cerere pentru Clarificarea statutului juridic in raport cu statul roman. Please note that all the documents comprised in the file are edited only in Romanian language. A list of translators is available at the following link http://londra.mae.ro/node/1998

The Clarification of the Romanian citizenship application might be submitted personally

The application form will be sent to the Romanian authorities. The answer will be received in up to 3 months of your request at the Consular Section.
