Visit to London of Mr. Adrian Vierita Secretary of State for European and Euro-Atlantic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On 1 – 2 February, Mr. Adrian Vierita, Secretary of State for European and Euro-Atlantic Affairs in the Romanian Foreign Ministry, paid a working visit to London.

On that occasion, the Romanian minister held talks with officials and personalities of Britain’s political life: Kim Darroch, Head of the European Secretariat and Counsellor for European Affairs to the Prime Minister Tony Blair, Mike Gapes, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Commons, Graham Brady, shadow minister for Europe as well as with representatives of some prominent think-tanks and academics.

The themes discussed during the meetings related to the future of Europe and of the EU Constitutional Treaty, the Union’s work agenda and the German Presidency’s priorities, the new EU Neighbourhood Policy, the relations with Russia and the states from the former Soviet bloc, Republic of Moldavia, Black Sea, strengthening of the political dialogue and economic foundation of the British-Romanian relations and the development of bilateral co-operations in areas of common interest like the energy policy and climate change.

In the evening of the 1st of February, the Romanian minister delivered a key-note presentation concerning the foreign policy objectives of Romania, as EU Member State, at the Conference “Romania’s EU membership: the way ahead”, organised by the Masaryk Society-School of Slavonic and East European Studies with the support from the Romanian Embassy.
